The Labour Party’s environment spokesman Leo Brincat has filed a judicial letter rebutting claims in the Nationalist Party media that he had connections with former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The letter was against Victor Camilleri, editor of the Sunday Il-Mument, and against PN general secretary Paul Borg Olivier in his capacity as a representative of Media.Link Communications, which own the newspaper.
Mr Brincat said that an article entitled Jafu bil-Finanzjament [Libjan lill-Partit Laburista] u Ma Qalu Xejn (Aware of the [Libyan] financing [to the PL] but stayed mum), which was published on October 9, was libellous and was written with the intention of harming him.
He said that he had served the PL for a number of years and had held various important posts but had never asked for, was offered or even negotiated any financing from Muammar Gaddafi on behalf of the PL.
He was holding both Mr Camilleri and Dr Borg Olivier responsible for any damages and reserved the right to institute further legal action against them.
Lawyer Owen Bonnici signed the letter.
