As the Farrugia Sacco saga unfolds, one hopes that a conciliatory approach to this intractable and serious national problem is still possible.
The Commission for the Administration of Justice has recommended that a judge’s first priority should be the cause of justice in our courts of law and Judge Farrugia Sacco has responded by stating publicly that he considers the promotion of sport in these islands as secondary to his profession as a judge dispensing justice in our courts.
Unquestionably, Judge Farrugia Sacco has served our country well over many years both as a judge and as a promoter of sport at its highest level.
It would be an honourable and generous gesture on his part were he to step down from the Malta Olympic Committee after a quarter century of voluntary service and thus pave the way for a satisfactory resolution of this complicated contention.
The majority of the Maltese people would undoubtedly hold him in greater gratitude and respect.
