Police are investigating an Italian woman’s claim that she was raped by a group of men in Ħal Far last weekend.

The 21-year-old filed a police report saying she was raped on Sunday night by a number of foreigners, the police media unit confirmed. No one has yet been taken in for questioning.

Sources said questions have been raised over the woman’s story due to inconsistencies, including the number of men involved. She claimed she was forced into a car while walking in Valletta and taken to Ħal Far where she was attacked. She then requested assistance at a nearby factory.

Her claims have been picked up by the Italian media.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona is leading an inquiry assisted by a number of court-appointed experts.
