Former Labour MP Gino Cauchi has been appointed chief executive officer of the Labour Party.

Mr Cauchi will fill the post vacated recently by former PL CEO James Piscopo, who has been handpicked to serve as chief executive of Transport Malta. Mr Cauchi contested the March 9 general election on the 10th district but failed to be re-elected to Parliament.

He contested the general election for the first time in 2008 and was elected in a by-election.

He is the former mayor of Pembroke and started his career working as a journalist and newscaster for PBS.

He also served as head of news of the Labour Party’s media house One Productions. During the past legislature, when the PL was in Opposition, Mr Cauchi was appointed spokesman for social dialogue, media, broadcasting and animal welfare.
