Champions Valletta FC have secured a financial boost ahead of the 2016/17 season after agreeing a two-year sponsorship deal with Iniala Group.

With Valletta at the heart of Iniala’s latest projects, which include the construction of new apartment buildings and a flagship hotel, the company has deemed it fit to align itself with the capital city’s football team which is very close to the heart of the residents.

Mark Weingard, Iniala Group’s founder, was elected to the club’s committee during the Annual General Meeting, held on Sunday.

Valletta, spearheaded by president Victor Sciriha and vice-president Alex Fenech, have also been working to fine-tune their squad ahead of their commitments in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

After completing the signings of Malta defender Steve Borg and Argentine wing-back Leandro Aguirre, coach Paul Zammit is reportedly close to striking a deal for an Argentine playmaker. Reports also suggest that Zammit is considering a move for Dutch forward Sylvano Comvalius who worked with the City coach at Birkirkara a few years back.

Elsewhere, Pedrinho has announced that he’s not staying with Balzan. Pedrinho, who had rejoined Balzan from Sliema in January, had been expected to renew his contract with the FA Trophy finalists but the Brazilian playmaker yesterday wrote on his Facebook page that he is leaving the club.
