Just weeks after a performance in front of 5,000 people in Żejtun, top local rock band Airport Impressions last night performed at an event marking the inauguration of Stockholm’s Tierp Arena, Europe’s most modern Drag Racing arena.

The opening ceremony, linked to the prestigious FIA European Drag Racing championship, was attended by some 20,000 people, in front of whom the award-winning Maltese rock band gave a fully-charged electric concert.

Howard Keith of Jagged House, the band’s management, said this international opportunity was the result of a lot of hard work to establish a presence for its artists beyond Malta’s shores.

“We also signed a non-exclusive deal with a tour agency for our acts last November.” Acknowledging that such opportunities are encouraging, he added that “performing live is the best way for a band to promote itself, even if playing the club circuit can be financially draining and doesn’t create a ‘domino effect’ that yields significant results. Airport Impressions has grown into a great live act.”

The band’s upcoming schedule is going to be a busy one, with various other live engagements planned throughout the summer, including a special performance at Numero Uno (Ta’ Qali) on June 25, during which concert the band will also officially launch its latest single Retro Star off their acclaimed debut album Minutes of a Lifetime. An accompanying music video will be released shortly after.

Frontman Errol Sammut said: “We’re aware this line of work is very fluid but hard work does eventually pay off. Our album has surpassed every expectation and the reactions of our audience give us the strength to carry on.”
