Il-Hazina area, in Comino hosts the oldest population of olive tree (żebbuġ) on the island.

The area has been protected as a nature reserve since 2001. However, the entire island of Comino is also protected as a bird sanctuary, a Natura 2000 site, a special area of sonservation of international importance and a special protection area.

Mepa declared this site as a Tree Protected Area on May 24, in accordance with the provisions of the Trees and Woodlands Protection Regulations (2011) as per Government Notice number 473/11.
