She has been out of the spotlight for years but the sparkling eyes and wholesome smile have not been withered.

Veteran star Doris Day is seen in her first publicity shot for 30 years as she prepares to release a new album next month.

The 87-year-old actress, who was one of Hollywood’s best known stars in the 1950s and 1960s, is releasing her first new album for 17 years called My Heart.

The grainy image shows her with a grey bob hairstyle, cuddling her little dog Duffy. Ms Day recently became the oldest artist playlisted by Radio 2, and her comeback led to her being one of the most commonly discussed names on Twitter.

Her new album, being released on September 5, features nine previously unreleased recordings and a trio of her classics.

Her pet has become the face of the Duffy Day Lifesaving Programme, funded by the actress’s animal foundation which saves animals which had been due to be put down.
