The IIG Bank Handicap Challenge, played recently at Marsa, has become one of the premier events at the Royal Malta Golf Club. Competition was held on a course in excellent condition to complement a new club house that has just been opened.

The IIG Bank Challenge is a two-day competition played with full handicap.

After Day One, Stefan Borg Manduca (net 65) was in the lead followed by Stoner, MacPherson, Denaro, Guillaumier and junior players Micallef Stafrace and Abele.

The leading contenders were within three strokes of each other.

The Ryder Cup was being competed at the time of the Challenge and some inspiration must have been drawn from this inter-national contest despite the fact that the extraordinary final result was not yet known.

Guillaumier, Holland, Borg Manduca and Gray all managed a net 68 on Day Two.

Borg Manduca held on to his lead with a net 133 for the two days, followed in second place by Guillaumier (net 135) and in third and fourth Micallef Stafrace and Stoner (both net 136).

Nigel Stibbs, the IIG Bank chief executive officer, having played in the tournament, was also on hand to present the prizes.
