On September 14, 2011, The Times published a letter of mine in which I wrote that “nowadays, only those who are credulous or conformist feel the need to belong to the scandal-ridden Catholic Church”. Since then, there have been more scandals.

On May 29, the BBC reported that “leaked confidential papal documents allege corruption and bitter power struggles at a high level in the Roman Catholic Church”.

On September 28, The Times of London published an article in which the Pope’s butler, Paolo Gabriele, was quoted as saying that he was acting with “around 20 other people in the Vatican” to expose “the rampant evil and corruption at the Vatican”. The Pope’s butler described the Vatican as “the kingdom of hypocrisy”.
