The IAAF’s evaluation commission will assess London’s bid for the 2017 World Athletics Championships at the start of next month.

The evaluation team are due to arrive in London on October 2 and then head off to its sole rival Doha on October 4 to assess the Qatari city’s bid.

London will bid to host the championships at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

The 27-strong IAAF electorate are due to decide which country will host the championships in Monaco on November 11.

London will have to convince the IAAF leadership that the future of a running track at the Olympic Stadium can be guaranteed despite an ongoing legal challenge by Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton Orient against the award of the venue to West Ham United.

Government ministers and London mayor Boris Johnson are confident, however, that they can provide those guarantees – even if the legal challenge is successful and the process has to be run again.

It also looks increasingly likely that Tottenham will be given financial incentives to redevelop White Hart Lane instead, especially following the riots that affected the area in the summer.
