It appears to me that the Maltese find it difficult to use a bus properly.

Here are some instructions:

1. Board the bus (preferably adhering to the civilised notion of queuing and respecting those who came before you);

2. Move to the back of the bus so that other people can also make use of public transport (public is not merely a nice adjective – the bus does not belong to you but to the collective);

3. Ring the bell a few metres away from the desired stop (truly, no need to shout);

4. Wait! till the bus comes to a stop. Do not ask people to move out of your way – you cannot alight until the bus comes to a standstill so there is no point really. Furthermore, during peak hours, “way” is a luxury on these buses (it’s really hard to manoeuvre while the bus is moving. Definitely do not ask someone to move and/or attempt to move yourself while the bus is going full speed round a bend);

5. Do not be an imbecile.

A bus ride can be a pleasant experience if its passengers follow these simple instructions.

One suggestion to Arriva: These instructions should be posted on every bus.
