Hibs Melita Gardens 108
Luxol 91
(1st leg – 59-45; 2nd leg – 49-46)

Holders Hibs Melita Gardens inscribed their name on the Louis Borg Cup for the seventh time last weekend after beating Luxol in the two-legged final. The success was also Hibs’ fourth in a row in the competition.

Bruno Di Pietrantonio’s girls paved the way for overall victory having dominated the first leg during which they gave their opponents, particularly Mandy Sciortino, very little space where to manoeuvre.

The turning point in Saturday’s first leg came as the second session got underway when Hibs opened a 31-12 lead. They held the upperhand until half-time – 34-19.

Exchanges were shared in the third quarter but near the end Luxol had a good moment to close the gap to nine points 45-34.

Hibs, however, again upped their tempo and kept back Luxol to carry a 14-point lead (59-45) into the second leg.

The Paolites looked the more composed side as the match got underway on Sunday and changed ends 28-17 to the good.

Christophe Stolp’s Luxol looked much better after the interval but Sciortino was receiving very little help from her team-mates as Hibs kept in front before the last quarter got underway (39-24).

Luxol’s press did reap some dividends but by then it was too late as Hibs had long been home and dry.
