Hibernians streamrolled past Raiders (Luxol) 6-1 to book a meeting with rivals Birkirkara in the semi-finals of the knock-out competition.

The Stripes, who powered their way past Division Two side Mosta 5-0, are topping the Division One standings with 43 points. With five matches left, they are edging towards their sixth title and hopeful of a domestic double, dethroning rivals Hibs from both titles.

The Paolites, ten points behind Birkirkara in the league, will shift their attention to the cup competition as they are looking to retain the trophy for a third year running.

Three goals from Dorianne Theuma, and one each from Dionne Tonna, Ruth Steer Chetham and Ylenia Carabott sealed the win for Hibernians as Lynn Fenech scored a consolation goal for Raiders.

Birkirkara were inspired by Alishia Sultana who listed her name on the score sheet no fewer than four times. Midfielder Kim Parnis was the other scorer in the Stripes’ victory.

The other two teams which made it to the last four are Kirkop United and Mġarr United.

In Division One, both teams are engaged in a tight race for third place as Mġarr are occupying third spot with 26 points while the Reds are five points behind.

In the quarter-finals, Kirkop swept aside Division Two promotion seekers Swieqi United 3-0.

Kirkop’s hero was young Demi Magrin who netted all three goals to seal an important win for Kirkop.

Mġarr’s passage to the last four was easy as they hammered Division Two Ħamrun Spartans 9-0.

Brenda Borg grabbed a hat-trick while Rebecca Vella and Claudette Xuereb netted a double each.

Tasha Pace and Jasmine Vella Turner completed the rout for Mġarr.

The two KO semi-finals will be played on May 2.

Player of the month

Raiders Luxol’s Andy Zammit is the BOV Player of the Month for December and January.

The 18-year-old has cemented herself in the team’s starting line-up. Her versatile play in defence and midfield is an asset to her coach.

Zammit scored Raiders’ only goal during the period considered for the award, from a free-kick, in a 2-1 upset to Gozo FC.
