Harold Harris was the consummate marketing executive. At a time when airline marketing was an absolute novelty, he blazed the path for successive airline marketeers. Air Malta owes him a lot.

He joined the airline in its very early days but soon demonstrated that the Maltese could run the show and it was also thanks to people like him that the Pakistani involvement was phased out much earlier than planned.

He made his mark in Tripoli where he built up a reputation for delivering results above expectation in a very difficult market. Later, he ran the national airline’s marketing and commercial department for several years. He built it into a formidable outfit and was an inspiration to all the team.

Harold knew exactly what he wanted and how to motivate people. He was respected by all those with whom he interfaced, be they aviation and tourism stakeholders or foreign airline executives.

He was fiercely loyal to Air Malta. All those who worked for him or with him owe him a depth of gratitude. I count myself as one of the people who were lucky enough to do so.

Harold was also a great character and had a knack for defusing tense situations with a joke.

He leaves to mourn him his many former colleagues and friends, who pray for him and for his children, Fiona and Sandy, and next of kin.
