The owner of a chain of confectioneries thinks he might be above the law. At Fgura, he dumps empty boxes and cartons in front of the door of the house next door. There have been times when in very windy weather, as was the case late last week, the boxes ended up in the middle of the main road, endangering both pedestrians and drivers. Meanwhile, in his outlet at Attard, a number of items on the shelves were being sold despite having expired dates.

With no consideration

A mother last week had to risk both her life and that of her young child in the pushchair. She had to get out on to the extremely busy Triq il-Qasam in Swieqi because of a very badly parked car. Where are the wardens when you need them? Haphazard parking is rampant in the area, making it very difficult, if not impossible, for anybody in a wheelchair!

Consumer rights

Are consumers always right? Are they held in high esteem? Not always. And definitely not at the Lidl outlets. Employees run around when the store is full of customers, with pelletisers. On Thursday employees were stocking the shelves and manoevring the pelletisers and asking customers to get out of the way. One of them was at least courteous enough to gently ask them to move away so they would not get hurt.

Mind your head

It was not just health and safety which this contractor threw out of the window while working on a construction site in Melita Street, Valletta. He also threw out debris and waste directly onto the back of a truck, conveniently parked beneath the window and blocking the street. There are usually wardens stationed at the top of Melita Street to monitor the situation. Where were they that day? Would they have allowed this disregard to others?
