Stephen Sackur, well-known English journalist and presenter of BBC’s HARDtalk, will be addressing students, journalists and interested members of the public on Friday.

Sackur, whose career has included coverage of the Gulf War, the Velvet Revolution of Czechoslovakia and the reunification of Germany, has interviewed a number of world leaders, prominent international personalities and leading cultural figures.

Following a morning talk restricted to university students and staff, he will address journalists, media staff and interested members of the public in the evening on Investigative Journalism: Joys and Throes.

Sackur was invited to Malta by the newly-established University of Malta Debating Union, MUDU, to share his expertise and experiences. The MUDU was founded by the University Students’ Council (KSU) and the University of Malta, and aims to reach out to as many students as possible.

Its objectives are primarily to promote debate and discussion, to train students in the art and style of debate and discussion, and to provide a forum for debates on issues of national concern.

■ Sackur will address the public on Friday at the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus at 6.30pm. Since places are limited, those interested in attending must register by tomorrow, March 2, at noon. To register, visit http://ksu.org.mt/index.php/mudusackursession . The activity is being organised in collaboration with The Tumas Foundation for Education in Journalism.
