Littlebot Film Labs is organising a series of fun, hands-on workshops to teach young people how to make a film on their phone.

Aimed at students between the ages of 11 and 15, it comprises a series of four workshops in which participants will be producing their own film, from scratch, using nothing but a smartphone and open-source software. Workshops are being held in screenwriting, sound, filming and editing.

The project seeks to educate and inspire Malta’s youth in the art of film-making. Participants will be taken through the creative process step-by-step, starting with screenwriter Cassi Camilleri who will discuss the basics of storytelling. Musician and sound designer Yasmin Kuymizakis will deal with capturing and effectively using sound. Directing is in the hands of Keith Tedesco while Franny Schembri will tackle editing.

With the support of Arts Council Malta and Creative Europe Desk Malta, the films produced at the Littlebot Film Labs will be shown at the European Film Awards’ Young Audience Film Awards.

■ The deadline to apply for the workshops is today at noon. All workshops are being held between 4pm and 8pm at Palazzo de La Salle in Valletta. Those for screenwriting are taking place on March 7, 8, and 9, for sound on March 14, 15 and 16, and for filming on March 21, 22 and 23, concluding with the editing workshops on March 28, 29 and 30.
