I refer to the letter by Giles Oakley (May 30) titled My Father Was No Forger and referring to his late father Kenneth P. Oakley, the well-known palaeontologist, physical anthropologist and geo-logist who, in a 1980 paper, considered the estimation of nitrogen in human molars from Għar Dalam for dating purposes.

I have always, in my writings and in my lectures, discredited the conspiracy theory expounded in some local 1990s publications positing a pre-Neolithic human presence in Malta.

I was not aware that the “tampering” and “forgery” allegations had found their way also in the more recent display of the Għar Dalam Museum.

From Mr Oakley’s reaction, it is obvious that this part of the display is clearly offensive and should be amended, the sooner the better.
