Motorists got a nasty surprise at the pumps yesterday when they realised the price of fuel had already gone up –having being led to believe by Enemalta that this month’s price increases would not take effect till tomorrow.

Enemalta announced the fuel price increases for September on Friday afternoon, adding they would take effect from tomorrow.

But at 8.45 p.m. on Friday – after the main TV evening news bulletins – Enemalta issued another statement saying the fuel increase would come into effect on Saturday (yesterday). It apologised for the inconvenience.

Unleaded rose by 5c and diesel by 1c. Enemalta said that the latest Oil Prices Bulletin ranked petrol and diesel prices in Malta ninth and fourth lowest in the EU.
