Further to my letter about providing free transport during the rush hour, I feel it is important to add the following:

The feedback received indicates that this is an excellent scheme but that it would involve some expense.

However, the Government, mainly the Department of Health, would, in the long run, save thousands of euros, as, with thousands of fewer cars on the road, the citizens’ health would improve. Harmful emissions would decrease dramatically. Arriva would also benefit because once commuters start using public transport, they would see the benefits and keep on using it.

For the system to work, it is of paramount importance that there is a trial period of at least three months for the system to catch up.

Also commuters who use the service between 6.30 and 7.30am could be issued with a special one-way return ticket.

I sincerely believe this is a win-win idea and hope the Minister for Transport, under the direction of the Prime Minister, could give this proposal a trial run.
