Vera Lungaro-Mifsud writes:

The passing of Frank Sapienza came as a big shock to all who knew him as it happened so quickly.

There are so many words to describe our ‘Uncle Frank’ (as he was fondly referred to among us).  He was kind, generous, thoughtful, funny, loving, endearing, passionate in all he did and above all ‘a gentle man’.

Frank had a big heart – a heart in which he dearly held all who he knew – his immediate family, his colleagues, his fellow Catenians and all his late daughter’s dear friends and her husband’s family in Seville. He treasured and nurtured friendship and was fiercefully loyal to all his friends.

Even when his heart was broken to pieces – following the tragic passing of his beloved Sharon – he somehow managed to keep part of his heart whole so none who were in it would somehow get out.

Together with his dearly beloved wife Edwige, they managed to make their home a haven for all who needed. Their door was always open for whoever wished to find solace in their home – from locals to the almost steady stream of visitors from overseas – who were always made welcome with the warm hospitality they invariably offered. Christmas will not be the same without Frank. None of their family or friends were allowed to feel lonely on Christmas Day – Uncle Frank and (Auntie) Edwige always ensured that they had place in their home.

Frank and Edwige suffered an immense loss yet their faith remained unwaivered and they accepted this tragic event in their life with resignation and dignity. Through the foundation they set up in Sharon’s memory they have kept her legacy alive and ensured that her dreams will live on.

There may not be a Frank Sapienza Foundation but Frank’s memory too will remain fresh in the minds of all whose life he touched.  We will never forget that big heart and big smile that were Frank.

To Edwige his wife, his sisters Margaret and Helen, his brother Joseph – may God give you the strength to carry on as Frank would have wished you to.

Rest in peace Uncle Frank – we love you and thank you for enriching our lives through your presence in it.
