More than 100 refugees have been gathering at the mosque in Paola every day at sunset to enjoy a free meal offered to them throughout the fasting month of Ramadan.

“Ramadan is a month of charity, generosity and solidarity,” said Imam Mohammad Elsadi who heads the Islamic Centre.

The centre had been offering meals to refugees during Ramadan for several years and this was the first time it was being done in collaboration with the Kuwaiti Embassy, he said.

“Every evening there are about 100 refugees and the number increased over the weekends,” Mr Elsadi said.

He added that as well as enjoying the food, the Muslim refugees also said their sunset prayers together.
