The owner of a fishing company yesterday filed a judicial protest against the director general of the Customs Department arguing that he had been discriminated against.

Paolo Piscopo, director of Dimitra Fishing Company Limited, said that a seizure notice for his boat was issued after 40,000 litres of diesel were found on board, including 8,000 litres that were allegedly being imported illegally.

He said that three other ships allegedly carrying undeclared fuel were offered the opportunity to enter into an administrative arrangement to pay the Customs duty due on the fuel but he was not.

Lawyers Veronique Dalli, David Camilleri and Dean Hili signed the protest.
