The spirits of many were lifted yesterday when the islands woke up to the smell of the first rain of the season.
The thunderstorm that struck overnight might have dampened weekend plans for some, but many welcomed the storm that usually hits towards the beginning of September.
Just after 3.30am, those who could not return to sleep after they were woken up by the claps of thunder expressed their relief on social media after a humid September.
Although there was the usual traffic in some parts of the island in the early morning, no major problems were reported.
Unlike previous years, no major flooding was reported either, but many residents spent their first waking hours mopping floors following the sudden, heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, more rain is being forecast for this weekend, with the Meteorological Office at Luqa saying there is a chance of thunderstorms today as well, and isolated showers tomorrow.
The northwestern wind, that is forecast to vary from force two to four for today, will change to easterly force three to four tomorrow.
