Finance Malta will head to Berlin later this month for a series of six events organised in collaboration with Malta Enterprise.

The delegation will include Foreign Minister Tonio Borg, Malta Enterprise executive chairman Alan Camilleri, Finance Malta head of business development Bruno L’ecuyer and many Finance Malta corporate members representing the legal, accountancy, consulting, insurance and banking sectors. Malta’s Ambassador to Germany Karl Xuereb will join the delegation.

Mr L’ecuyer said representatives from more than 70 German organisations have confirmed their attendance at the events between September 14 and 16 as well as some 20 domestic professionals. Delegates will include chairmen, heads and executives from leading German firms like banks, capital managers, asset managers, professional services groups, legal firms and the corporate sector.

The underpinning theme is to drive deeper sustainable connections with one of Malta’s most important trading partners that stand the test of continuous changes to business models.

The opening event on September 14 will be addressed by Dr Borg and is part of Finance Malta’s ‘Doing Business In Malta’ series.

It will highlight the key benefits Malta offers to international investors, such as a strong and diversified economy, a motivated, trained and highly-skilled workforce, top class ICT infrastructure, market access, stable social and political environments and a balanced financial regulatory regime.

The following day, Finance Malta will host a business breakfast at the Berlin Capital Club to present Malta’s dynamic, open and international economy. The Berlin Capital Club is the first private business club in Berlin and is one of the capital’s finest institutions.

It offers its members excellent regional, national and international business contacts. The network and support of its partners has priority for the club’s business.

The busy schedule on September 15 includes a private lunch event at the Savoy Hotel moderated by TV personality Mila da Veela which aims to inform investors from the manufacturing, aviation, pharmaceutical and biotech sectors on the advantages of doing business in Malta.

There will also be an evening seminar at the Commerzbank headquarters for bankers moderated by Ms da Veela.

Commerzbank AG is Germany’s second largest bank and is mainly active in commercial, retail and mortgage banking. A panel discussion on banking will also led by Finance Malta members.

Highlights on September 16 include a private event to inform legal professionals and their clients on the Maltese legal framework and the opportunities of doing business in Malta.

This event is hosted by one of Berlin’s leading law firms at their corporate offices. To round off an intensive couple of days, Finance Malta will host a lunch event for chief financial officers from DAX 50 companies to showcase the advantages of doing business in Malta, and also the potential benefits of setting up operations on the island. This event is hosted by the CFO of Deutsche Telekom AG.

Malta and Germany already have a strong relationship, with more than 50 German firms operating in the country in diverse sectors such as insurance, manufacturing and engineering, logistics, maritime, ICT and tourism.
