I was very surprised to read (February 4) that we had fewer cars on the road in 2012. Traffic congestion has been unbearable at most times of the day, yet the NSO has confirmed that the number of cars on Maltese roads has actually decreased.

While car importers have been complaining about declining sales, individuals and second-hand car dealers took the opportunity to import thousands of used cars, mainly from the UK, thus swelling the number of motor vehicles on the island. Can anyone explain?
