We live in Triq il-Ħaġar, Tarxien and we are already facing a considerable parking problem, especially in the evenings, since this street is located exactly behind the Tarxien Rainbows football ground and, therefore, many people come here every day to practise football and/or other sports.
The other day, construction vehicles arrived and began works, without us residents having been consulted. It emerged that the road space opposite the government flats is being considerably narrowed and a huge pavement is being built.
However, we are informed that this pavement is in fact the first step towards a multi-garage project that is expected to take shape in the near future.
This has already happened on the other side of the ground.
The problem is that, as we were informed, part of this street space is privately owned.
On the other hand, building garages in this area will only add to the existing parking problem.
What we suggest is that if this space in the street is really privately owned, the central government should acquire this land and compensate the landlords accordingly for this parking space to be left as it is.
