I would be interested to discover the exact basis for Nadia Dimech’s rather sweeping statement that the “Catholic community is not yet ready for female priests” (March 6).
Speaking from my own experience, I have been to a number of religious functions in the UK officiated by female priests. These ladies had remarkable poise and dignity and delivered down-to-earth sermons, quite unlike the usual run-of-the mill Bible study type homilies delivered in many Catholic churches.
I have met Anglican female priests both socially and as patients and was very impressed by their humanity and down-to-earth approach to life. I think the time has come for the Catholic Church to seriously consider ordaining women to the priesthood. There is no real reason other than tradition to block this.
