The Kremlin Museums are hosting an exhibition on the Order of St John with items borrowed from Heritage Malta.

The exhibition, which focuses on historical links between the Order and Russia, is commemorating the 20th anniversary of their official relations.

It was organised with the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Russia and will close on September 9.

More than 25 per cent of the artefacts come from Heritage Malta’s national collection, from the Palace Armoury, National Museum of Fine Arts and Malta Maritime Museum.

These include Grandmaster Alof de Wignacourt’s siege armour, parts of the armour belonging to the La Vallette family and the Verdelin suit of armour, which was made famous by its portrayal in a painting by Caravaggio at the Louvre.

Three important documents are also on loan from the National Library of Malta.

Links between the Order of St John and Russia go back to the 17th century during the rule of Grandmaster Ramon Perellos.
