Congratulations. Malta has made it into newspapers in Switzerland thanks to an interview with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat that is entitled ‘We want to be an exclusive club!’.

The Prime Minister goes to great lengths to explain Malta’s position. His justification is that the island is looking for special talents who are globally connected and willing to donate €650,000 as well as to invest €500,000.

Globally connected but never having set foot on Malta! Further, Malta does not need the money given its good economy, education system and government.

As a special candidate filter, Malta has engaged a private company to scan the applications and make recommendations.

According to the Prime Minister, similar criteria will be used as when a bank account is opened. Did anyone ever have any trouble opening a bank account in Malta?

Muscat said new ways always meet with difficulties and he foresees that other countries will follow Malta’s good example.

Is all the negative national, EU and international criticism worth it to get Malta these ‘super’ talents?

The Prime Minister did not make the best impression.
