The University is insisting Matsec exam results will be published by its deadline tomorrow.

The target date of the September Matsec results “has always been September 27” since 1994.

The deadline “has been met without fail” despite more candidates and regulation changes over the years and it “will also be met this year”, the University said in a statement.

Last week, numerous students expressed concern via social media that they had not yet received their results.

The University pointed out that, since 2012, students could apply and sit for new subjects in the September intermediate and advanced exam sessions because these were no longer limited to resit exams.

This meant that, in addition to correcting papers and administrative work, the Matsec board had to “assess all the exam’s components”, including the written and oral exams, and organise interviews for coursework.

Previously, 250 students would sit for English intermediate exams but 768 registered for the exam this month and more than 100 interviews had to be held for candidates taking up systems of knowledge. There were similar increases in other subjects, the University said.

This year, exams started on August 30 and finished on September 7, leaving 20 days for “marking, checking results, awarding grades and other administrative tasks”.

“Despite this considerable workload, the Matsec board assures candidates that the deadline to publish the results will be kept,” the University said.
