It appears that Michael Camilleri, who wrote on behalf of Żminijietna (August 22), is completely misinformed about the Malta Employers’ Association’s relationship with Maltese trade unions.

I fail to see why he has singled out the MEA’s position regarding Forum’s participation in the Malta Council for Economic and Social Dialogue, when it has been made manifestly clear that this stand is also shared by other social partners, including unions.

Regarding the situation at Palumbo, Mr Camilleri can rest assured the MEA has been doing its utmost to bring the two sides together.

If Mr Camilleri is as close to the Maltese trade unions as he would like readers to believe, then he would surely be very much aware of our constant engagement with the General Workers’ Union, the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin, the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions and others to maintain healthy and stable industrial relations in Malta. This has been at the core of MEA’s activities since it was founded more than 40 years ago.

The fact is that, rather than writing sporadic and misleading letters to justify our existence, we prefer to channel our energies into achieving tangible results in the national interest.
