Tenor Joseph Calleja believes that opera is for everyone and not just for the elite. He says he loves seeing the opera bug spread. I cannot agree more. No wonder we are so very proud of him.

However, I think that our young generation is not that enthusiastic about opera. So much so that Alfred Miceli and I had decided to write a book in order to make this form of western classical music better known and appreciated.

In this book, we give interesting details about the 20 most popular operas in Malta and Gozo over the years. For each opera, there is biographical information on the composer and a summary of the plot, together with a photo of a local production. However we are disappointed that we found so very little appreciation for our effort.

We approached the Manoel Theatre, the Gozo theatres and individuals to sponsor our initiative. The response was extremely poor.

We hope this letter is read by people who are keen on opera and who may be willing to help us have this book published.
