FimBank’s new head office building in St Julian’s is an 8,000-square-metre development consisting of modern office space, car parking and storage facilities.
Mercury Tower is a striking piece of architecture. Each elevation is different and designed to respond to the individual orientation of each facade. The terracotta-clad North Elevation features a set of 22 co-ordinated, but irregularly placed, windows. The South Facade features a high-performance glass curtain walling, which apart from giving the building a modern architectural appearance, reduces heat gains and the requirement of artificial lighting.
FimBank First Vice President Jason Zammit explained that “environmental considerations were always high on our agenda. In keeping with the bank’s community values, the building needed to incorporate the latest environment-friendly features”.
The building is equipped with superior ventilation systems, intelligent lighting controls, building management systems and high-performance insulation materials. The selected glazed curtain walling reduces the requirement of artificial lighting, benefitting the health and well-being of its occupants. The building’s energy consumption is also significantly diminished by the use of heat recovery units that reduce the load of the air conditioning.
Throughout the building’s planning and construction, FimBank has been very proactive in implementing measures to minimise its impact on the environment, with the bank being committed to continue reviewing its performance in this regard, implementing recycling practices and pursuing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
