A Briton who imported eight kilograms of cannabis resin in a false bottom of his suitcase was jailed for 15 years and fined €20,000 after pleading guilty before standing trial by jury.

Stephen Bradbury got the drugs to Malta in agreement with two Indian nationals.

They agreed on how to go about it in New Delhi and he then flew to Malta via Dubai, bringing the drugs over, according to the bill of indictment. Mr Bradbury arrived on May 6, 2011 and was meant to receive €5,000 for his part in the matter.

Court-appointed experts found that the drugs were 10.5 per cent pure and had a street value of €50,000.

Mr Justice Michael Mallia took into consideration Mr Bradbury’s early admission.
