I was saddened to read of the death of a 60-year-old man on Saturday morning, allegedly caused by a 39-year-old Briton who has now been accused of manslaughter and drink-driving.
I was very glad to therefore assume that this Briton was breathalysed, something that should be done in all car accidents, particularly of this type, as happens in other countries.
In the same edition of The Times (June 18), there was a report of “two badly hurt in car crashes”, both drivers reportedly having “lost control”! How many times do we see that as a reason for an accident?
I would like to think that these drivers were also breathalysed because “losing control” seems all too common on our roads and whether or not someone is badly hurt, driving while being “under the influence” simply should not betolerated.
