Imagine lying in the dentist’s chair with sticky material flowing down your throat. While you’re trying not to gag, the dentist says the impression material will soon set and you’ll be on your way with temporary teeth while the final ones will be ready in the coming weeks!

Today, thanks to CAD-CAM technology, tooth impressions may be recorded without conventional moulding materials, says dental and implant surgeon Jean Paul Demajo.

Using intra-oral cameras, thousands of photographs of the teeth are captured in seconds and saved on dental software. These images are reproduced on a dental chair-side screen and the final teeth designed within seconds, he explains.

Once the patient agrees to the 3D virtual image of their new teeth, the dentist relays this information by Wi-Fi to an adjacent tooth-milling unit. Ceramic metal-free prefabricated blocks are then inserted in the unit and, at the touch of a button, the blocks are cut and milled in minutes.

The finished crowns are then cemented in the mouth in the very same appointment.

This application may be used for ceramic fillings, veneers, single and/or multiple crowns and bridges. No more waiting, no time wasted.
