A man was given a seven-month jail term suspended for a year yesterday after he admitted to stealing €1,500 worth of diesel from various vans and trucks in Birżebbuġa.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit heard Joseph Schembri, 50, of Żurrieq plead guilty to stealing the fuel on and before Friday.

He will be paying for the stolen fuel over the next six months.
