The news item entitled Lawyer’s Offer To Represent Rape Suspect Is Rejected (November 1) does not reflect what actually happened in court.

Roberto Montalto offered to represent the accused Omar Osman Omar instead of Malcolm Mifsud, advocate for legal aid. He also asked for some time to study the case. Mr Justice Michael Mallia did not object to Montalto representing Omar but simply made it quite clear that the trial by jury would start on the appointed day and that the court would not again adjourn the case.

Montalto then decided not to take on the brief.
