The 11th edition of Festival Mediterranea, a celebration of art and culture in Gozo, will reach a climax with the opera Madame Butterfly.
Held between October 25 and November 17, the festival is organised by Astra Theatre and supported by Bank of Valletta.
The month-long festival will focus on history, art and tradition and give prominence to music through a number of concerts, varying from chamber to symphonic. The opera selected for this year features three world-class singers: soprano Daniela Dessì, tenor Fabio Armiliato and baritone Carlo Guelfi.
The festival’s music director, Joseph Vella, will be directing the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. The Astra Theatre Opera Chorus, under the tuition of Maria Frendo, will also take part in the event.
The opera will be performed on October 25 and 27 at 7.30pm. Other events include an original tango production, a vocal recital featuring Romanian mezzo-soprano Oana Andra, a piano recital by the world’s youngest left-hand-only pianist Nicholas McCarthy and the Annual Grand Concert of the La Stella Philharmonic Band.
Festival Mediterranea is organised by over 200 volunteers.
