A carriage horse bolted and damaged two cars, including a taxi carrying three tourists, yesterday afternoon.

The horse was injured in its right front and left hind legs but none of those involved in the incident were hurt, though the cars, a Ford Fiesta and the taxi, were damaged.

The police said the accident occurred at about 2.30pm when something disturbed the animal, which was at a stand for horse-drawn cabs inFloriana, and it bolted.

The cabby, a 22-year-old from Qormi, unsuccessfully tried to calm the horse and the animal ran off, hitting the rear part of the Ford Fiesta driven by a 24-year-old woman from Swieqi.

The horse was not injured and headed towards Marsa where, in Racecourse Street, it collided with the white taxi driven by a 30-year-old man from Birkirkara. Three American patrons were in the taxi at the time. The driver was taken to a health centre suffering from shock.

This time, the animal was injured and collapsed. It was examined by a veterinarian summoned from a nearby clinic. It was then taken away by the owner for further treatment.
