The business community will assess the losses resulting from power cuts and request compensation from Enemalta, the Chamber of Small Medium Enterprise – GRTU said yesterday.

“Enemalta should stand up and be counted,” the GRTU said in a statement.

Recent power cuts at Sliema’s Bisazza Street showed the shambolic state of affairs at the corporation, it said.

Enemalta had a contractual obligation to supply electricity against payment. While the business community paid for the service “through its nose”, the corporation was not honouring its obligation.

The GRTU insisted that business could not function when an essential service such as electricity was not guaranteed and asked whether each shop owner in areas like Bisazza Street was now expected to install a generator as back up.
