After reading the article on the lack of plots in the cemetery, I was pleased about the balanced way The Times’ reporter seemed to approach such an emotive subject and again raised the subject of cremation as perhaps a way to solve the shortage of burial plots.
I was aghast, however, when I read the paragraph beginning “We all become ashes again in the end” and then by the appalling use of the word “incinerate”.
I have never heard that word used in the context of cremation or in dealing with the passing of a loved one. I would hope this is not an attempt to influence people against cremation by raising undue concerns. I can assure everyone that cremation is a very dignified occasion. So if we are to have an informed discussion in any forum more care in the choice of words is called for.
