A historic area of Britain has made it into an exclusive list of must-see tourist spots for 2012. Greenwich in southeast London has been chosen as one of the top destinations for next year by travel guide Frommer’s.

Set to become a royal borough next year, Greenwich is praised by Frommer’s for its ability to continually reinvent itself since it emerged as a naval centre in the 18th century. The guide book also highlights Greenwich’s remarkable baroque façades by architects such as Wren, Hawksmoor and Vanbrugh along the Thames waterfront as well as the beautiful views one can take in across the oldest of the royal parks, Greenwich Park, to the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.

Other must-see destinations for 2012 included Girona in Spain, Beirut in Lebanon and the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.
