Following a speech by the Irish Prime Minister, who said that Ireland will veto any movement that the UK will make to leave the EU, and this follows a speech by Malta’s Prime Minister, I now understand that Ireland and Malta are democratic countries but I wonder whether these people understand what democracy means?

For their benefit, allow me to say that democracy means implementing the will of the majority of the people and that is what happened in the Brexit referendum.

Malta and Ireland are net benefactors and obtain more from the EU than they pay. On the other hand, the UK is the second highest contributor to the EU and stopping such a big contribution to the EU must worry countries that take and not give.

I belong to a group of 30 plus senior citizens who travel a lot (what else can we do) and, in June, we cancelled a three-week holiday to Malta - a trip we have made for the past 12 years - after the remarks Joseph Muscat made criticising the UK for leaving. Instead, we went to Cyprus and had a fantastic time.

We were planning a trip to Dublin in October but, needless to say, we are now looking for another destination.

I say to all Brits: vote with your feet.
