A fusion of contemporary and lyrical rock dance, Yada is holding its first predominantly all male production. Stripping Man explores the male world – weaknesses, downfalls, strength and power. Is a man genetically superior? Is he privileged? What is his relationship with himself, his gender, the other gender and beyond?
Yada’s new creation will dig into man’s vulnerability and his insecurities. The concept of gender is studied through the understanding of what we deem as ‘unmanly’ or being manly.
Looking to conform, man finds himself trying to build relationships, friendships and partnerships that could be tumultuous, stormy and, sometimes, lethal until this experience will attempt at finding the hero in masculinity. Stripping Man strips away the boundaries of local perception causing possibly a thought provoking, controversial and powerful creation.
Fifteen men and five women take the stage for approximately 90 minutes, under the direction of Felix Busuttil. In collaboration with the other dancers, they willl be dancing to an original score of Conrad Dimech. Ten musicians will be playing live, accompanied by singers Ivan Grech (Winter Moods), Brooke, Gianluca Bezzina, Dorothy Bezzina, Ylenia, Amanda and Ishmael. The company has also invited seven Italian dancers, some of who have worked on Mediaset’s Amici, namely Michele Nocca.
Stripping Man takes place on April 1, 2 and 3 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.
