I am sorry to say that after the publication of the Iklin mayor’s letter (February 17), my concerns about the needs of Iklin residents have grown more acute because he seems not to be aware of the problems I highlighted as regards the environment, the infrastructure and the social dimension.

Being in the position of mayor for 16 years may have made him immune from the realities faced daily by Iklin residents. Although in the last couple of weeks I noticed an effort to upgrade the physical infrastructure, I think this is too little too late, coming as it is just before an election.

Can the mayor please inform our residents what has been done to date about the huge amount of traffic that passes through the core of our village to the detriment of all residents? We want clear answers, not rhetoric, that he has done his best on the matter.

Finally, does Iklin not need an open space big enough to be transformed into a family recreational park where residents can meet socially and enjoy a safe and healthy environment?

The residents request answers to their queries because the mayor has been there for the long period of 16 years, by his own admission.

Residents should judge whether the present council under his mayorship has improved the infrastructure, whether any embellishment projects were taken in hand and whether the traffic problem has been seriously tackled with Transport Malta.

They have to choose in their best interest.
