Lady golfers at the Royal Malta Golf Club competed in their annual championships, sponsored by Intercomp (Nokia), between May 23 and 24.

The Championship Cup (for handicaps 0-23) and the Moya Hann Shield (for handicaps 24-36) are played for over two consecutive days in Medal format on a Scratch basis (no handicap allowance).

The sky was clear but a prevailing wind tested all the players on both days of competition.

The overnight leader in the main event was Laine Tutane.

She posted an impressive gross score of 78 on Day One, followed by Maureen Borg and Maria Woodward who were both four shots behind the leader.

Borg closed the gap on Day Two and for the 17th time since 1987, she went on to seal the title, three shots ahead of Tutane. Woodward was third.

In the Moya Hann Shield, Ann Marie Awad took the title from Terry Davies, the overnight leader, with a one-shot winning margin.

Davies was the runner-up and Mandy Lucasse third.
