Malta international Martina Borg produced an outstanding performance as she scored a hat-trick to hand Hibs a 3-1 win over a youthful Mġarr United team in midweek.

With this win, Hibs strengthened their lead at the top of the Division One standings, three points clear of Birkirkara.

Hibernians took charge from the initial stages. They went ahead after six minutes when Ylenia Carabott advanced towards goal, whipped in a cross and Borg volleyed home to score her first goal of the night.

As the first half progressed, Hibernians continued to boss the game as the Mġarr girls struggled in attack.

Borg hit wide after a solo move but a few minutes later she scored her second goal.

Dorianne Theuma’s shot was half parried by the goalkeeper but the rebound dropped at Borg’s feet and she tapped home.

With Hibs starting the second half in the driving seat, Mġarr’s reaction was not strong enough to reopen the issue. Then, the Paolites wrapped up their win when Borg completed her hat-trick.

Mġarr scored a consolation goal seven minutes from time through Brenda Borg.
